Second Photographer: Do You Need One For Your Wedding Day?

June 30, 2022

Austin Wedding Photographer

Wedding planning can be overwhelming, and one important part of your wedding planning decision is photography. You did your research and finally found the photographer to capture your wedding day. A question most of my clients have is, “Do I need a second photographer on my wedding day?”. The short answer is: it depends!

What Is a Second Photographer?

A second photographer is a photographer who works alongside your primary wedding photographer on your wedding day. They helps photograph a variety of different angles and separate locations. I’ve listed below four reasons why you should consider one!

4 Reasons To Consider a Second Photographer

More Images In Your Gallery

Having a second wedding photographer means you get more edited images back! It is the other photographer’s job to be where the lead photographer is not. They focus on capturing the details and wider angles on your wedding day. All while the lead photographer focuses on capturing the couple and their day.

Flexibility In A Tighter Timeline

An aditional photographer can help you stay on time if you have a tighter timeline. It is easier to round up the family and wedding party for portraits when you have two people instead of one and only 30 minutes to take them. This is also something you might want to consider if you and your partner are getting ready in two different locations. Your lead photographer can focus on one spouse while the other focuses on the other spouse.

More Guest Coverage

While taking any pre-ceremony portraits with your lead photographer, your second photographer can be with your guests. While doing any wedding party and family photos with your lead photographer, your second photographer can be with your guests at the cocktail hour.

The Unexpected

Sometimes, things outside of our control happen. If something unexpected happens to your lead photographer, your second photographer is there to take over and be able to pick up the slack.

At the end of the day, it is ultimately up to you if you need one on your wedding day! I hope this blog helps your decision on considering one for your big day. If you have any questions or would like to learn how to book us for your wedding day, click the link here!
